WERA WEST AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Wednesday, February 3, 2010 I arrived in Vegas Friday 1/31 in the late afternoon. This was my first time at this track and I was a little nervous. Saturday was the first of my 3 races. The Solo Middle Weight Expert class had a full grid and was 20 laps long. Lap time were running around 1:20. It was cold in the morning so I knew the times would pick up by the middle of the day. I started on the third row and was 6th into the first turn. Around the third lap I had quickly moved into 3rd. Steve Rapp had a 6 second lead so I knew I had to focus and ride smart if I had any chance of catching him. I was turning consistent lap times and half way through the race I had caught second place and made the pass. Steve was still way out front, so I just rode smart and took second place and began to focus on the races for Sunday.
Sunday I had the remaining 2 races, C Superstock Expert and C Superbike Expert. I was feeling really good after the morning practice. First up was the C Superstock Expert. I started on the 2nd row which was much better than the 21st row at Fontana. I got a bad start this time and was in 6th into the first turn. I know that 6th isn't really a bad start, but when you only have 6 laps I knew I needed to ride hard. I caught Shawn Higbee and passed him to move up into 4th but the leaders were to far ahead of me and we were all close in speed for me to catch 3rd. I just continued to ride hard and ended up turning the second fastest lap time of the day. I was happy with 4th and excited by the way I rode.
Next up was the C Superbike Expert class. It was a repeat of the first race. I started on the 2nd row again. Into the first turn I was in 6th again. I moved into 5th early but was passed by Toy. Toy moved by Higbee and I got hung up behind Higbee. I was pushing Higbee and I passed him on the last lap, the turn before the back straight to move into 4th. I was a little bummed the Toy passed me, but his bike was so fast. In the end it was a great weekend for me. I feel real good going into the 1st AMA Supersport round at Daytona. I'm looking for my first AMA win.
I would like to thank all my sponsors, Shift, Shoei, TCX, PitBull, Galfer, Skull Candy, Graves Yamaha, GPR, LTD Racing, Lennie Long, Dirt Digets, Perelli, TLD, K&N, Lancasters, and my dad.
